This little flycatcher has always been a favorite of mine. For years I had noticed a few around the yard from time to time. A few years ago while observing other birds in one of our pine trees I spotted a vermillion flycatcher returning to spot high in the tree where I eventually found a nest. That year we had two young flycatchers hatch and successfully fledge. Two years ago a vermillion flycatcher nested in a mesquite tree along our driveway. That provided an opportunity to see them almost everyday and to follow their hunting patterns. They frequently return to the same perch between flights grabbing an insect. That enabled me to get many pictures. This one is my favorite.
